Meaning
Doubling appears when the picture visibly refuses to stay singular. A figure, face, panel, room, or icon is echoed, paired, mirrored, repeated, or set against a second form.
The tag stays literal first. It belongs to works where the doubled structure can be pointed to in the image before any symbolic reading begins.
Doubling can still become rivalry, memory, performance, or identity, but only after the visual pair is already there.
